The term ronca refers to the guttural roar of the male fallow deer (dama dama) during the rut. From late September through October, these calls echo across the mountains as stags fight for dominance and the chance to mate.

It’s a raw and unforgettable moment in nature, one that combines sound, atmosphere, and the thrill of witnessing wildlife in its most primal state.

The best time to hear La Ronca is from the end of September to late October, just after sunset and into the night. This is when males are most active, their roars filling the valleys of the Sierra de las Nieves.
