The Dehesa: Mediterranean Oak Forests
Leaving the Ronda plateau, you’ll enter the heart of the Andalusian Dehesa. This ancient ecosystem of Holm and Cork Oaks provides a shaded, peaceful start to your ride. Keep an eye out for local wildlife and the famous Iberian pigs that roam these forests. The scent of wild rosemary and thyme often fills the air here.
The Vineyards of Arriate
As we traverse the rolling hills toward Arriate, the landscape shifts into orderly rows of vines. You are cycling through one of Spain’s fastest-growing boutique wine regions. Even if we aren't stopping for a tasting on this ride, the view of the high-altitude vineyards against the backdrop of the Sierra de las Nieves is a photographer’s dream.
Ancient Trade Routes & Olive Groves
This moderate route follows sections of historic trails used for centuries by locals traveling between the "White Villages." You’ll pass through silver-green olive groves—the backbone of Andalusian agriculture—offering wide, sweeping views of the Guadalporcún Valley as it begins to open up before you.
The 22km Scenic Descent
The "moderate" effort of the morning pays off with a spectacular, long-flowing descent. As you drop down from the Ronda heights, the air gets warmer and the cliffs of the canyon start to rise around you. This section is all about the "wind in your face" and the sheer joy of downhill cycling through a landscape that hasn't changed in centuries.
The Grand Arrival: Setenil’s Cave Houses
The climax of the tour is your entry into Setenil de las Bodegas. Unlike other villages built on cliffs, Setenil is built into them. You’ll see homes, shops, and cafes with massive natural boulders acting as their roofs. Remember, we take your bikes at the edge of town, so you can walk freely under the rocks of Calle Cuevas del Sol and find the perfect spot for lunch.

In order to avoid traffic as much as possible, this route uses a large section of gravel tracks and unpaved roads that are very popular with local cyclists. A large portion of paved sections are downhill for a smooth ride. You will find some cobbled streets in Setenil de las Bodegas as well as foot traffic.
The route is only 35km (22 miles) and is mostly flat and downhill with a total ascent of 400m.
Moderate
Any cycling excursion, easy or challenging, should still be treated the same regarding preparation.
For you all the difficult stuff like maintaining the bicycles and planning the routes have been done, so all you need to do is come prepared with suitable clothing for cycling (padded shorts are not necessary but recommended), hydrated and fuelled (have breakfast and drink water), bring suncream/sunscreen and most importantly expect to have an awesome day.

The Ronda to Setenil Moderate tour is 35km (22 miles) and is designed for those who cycle regularly. While much of the route is a beautiful long descent into the Guadalporcún valley, there is a significant climb of approximately 400m total throughout the ride, but a lot of that is early in the route when legs are fresh. It features more unpaved gravel tracks and ancient trade routes than our easy route, offering a more rugged, "off-the-beaten-track" experience through the Serranía de Ronda.
Yes! This is one of the most popular features of our tour. Setenil de las Bodegas is famous for its narrow "Cave House" streets like Calle Cuevas del Sol, which can be very busy with pedestrians. To give you the best experience, we can meet you at a designated point on the edge of town to take your bikes. You are then 100% free to wander, take photos, and enjoy a well-earned tapas lunch under the boulders without the hassle of pushing or locking up a bicycle.
This route offers incredible geographic variety. You will cycle through high-altitude Mediterranean oak forests, past the rolling vineyards of Arriate, and through vast olive groves. You’ll follow a historic trade route that offers wide-open views of the Sierra de las Nieves and the Sierra de Grazalema mountain ranges before your final descent into the canyon where Setenil is hidden.
Absolutely. After you have spent some time exploring the cave houses and the Moorish castle in Setenil, our minibus will meet you at a pre-arranged time (usually around 2:30 PM) to drive you and your group back to Ronda. The drive back is only 20 minutes, getting you back to base with plenty of time to enjoy a Ronda sunset.
Thanks to Ronda's high-altitude microclimate, this tour is beautiful year-round, but the experience changes with the seasons:
Spring (March–May): The valleys are vibrant green, and the wildflowers are in full bloom.
Summer (June–August): We start early to beat the heat. The cave houses in Setenil provide "natural air conditioning" (staying around 18°C) once you arrive!
Autumn (September–November): Perfect riding temperatures and the beginning of the olive and grape harvests.
Winter (December–February): Expect crisp air and incredibly clear blue skies—perfect for seeing the distant mountain peaks.
Customised routes and itineraries can be created, so we encourage you to contact us with any requests you may have. We can create customised itineraries including but not limited to: shorter/longer rides, different towns, different start and end points as well as multi-day tours from one base town.
