Moderate to Challenging Classification
This circular route from Ronda via Montejaque is classified as Moderate to Challenging difficulty.
Starting from Ronda, you will cycle out of town and down into the valley below. The descent lasts for 6 Km where you will meet an undulating road that will bring you to the first point of interest, the Cueva del Gato and its natural swimming pool.
From the Cueva del Gato, you will continue along the same undulating road until it starts to ascend. This mountain road will take you up through the village of Benoaján and onto Montejaque. In Montejaque, you will have the chance to grab a drink and enjoy the local plaza before you continue towards the Hundidero dam.
As you climb past the dam, you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the rugged mountain landscape and the countryside beyond and maybe a chance to spot a vulture or two.
From the dam, you will soon descend through a cork oak forest before you meet a short climb and a flat period.
The final 15 Km will see you ascend a little before descending while you pass farmland, olive groves, vineyards and forests. Finally, you will ascend into Ronda from below its famous Puente Nuevo.
