VIA VERDE DE LA SIERRA - DAY TRIP FROM RONDA
Ronda isn’t just for history lovers and landscape photographers — it’s a fantastic destination for families too! If you’re exploring this stunning part of Andalusia with little ones, you’ll be pleased to know there’s plenty to keep them entertained. From magical forests to splash-worthy adventures, here are 5 great activities to enjoy with kids in and around Ronda.
Sometimes, all kids need is a great playground, and Ronda delivers. Scattered throughout town, you’ll find a variety of well-kept parks perfect for a picnic, a run-around, or just letting off some steam.
Parque de San Rafael: Tucked into a residential neighbourhood with plenty of space to play. This Ronda-themed park with its own ‘Puente Nuevo’ is a great place for children to run around and have fun, boasting swings, climbing frames, slides and games. There is also a picnic area and a football court in the park.
The Pirate Park: A name my son and I have created as the park doesn’t have an official name (as far as I know). A large pirate-themed climbing frame with slides surrounded by swings (including an adaptive swing), a playhouse and a large rope structure provides something for children of various ages. A football and basketball court is also on site for the older and competitive children. A long walk from town, so a car would be recommended.
Alameda del Tajo: Located near the edge of the famous gorge, this tree-lined park not only has a play area but also stunning views and shady spots for a relaxing break. Very central.
Tip: Pick up some churros and enjoy a laid-back morning while the kids play.
Just under an hour’s drive from Ronda, La Playita in Zahara de la Sierra is the perfect summer escape for families. This freshwater recreational area is nestled in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park and offers a safe, shallow swimming lagoon that’s ideal for kids.
While there's no sand, the large, grassy areas shaded by trees make it an excellent spot for a picnic or relaxing in nature. There’s also a children’s playground, a restaurant, and plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the fresh air.
Open only during the summer months, La Playita is well-maintained and lifeguarded, making it a safe and popular choice for locals and visitors alike. You can pre-book your tickets online, which is recommended during peak season.
And for the more adventurous in the family, there's even a zipline that stretches across the water, adding a fun thrill to the day!
Whether you're swimming, playing, or simply lounging with a sandwich under the trees, La Playita is a fantastic day out that combines nature, activity, and relaxation for all ages.
If your little ones love fairies, forest creatures, and magical adventures, then a visit to the Bosque Encantado (Enchanted Forest) in the nearby village of Parauta is a must. Located about 30 minutes by car from Ronda, you’ll need your own transport to get there, but the short drive through the beautiful Sierra de las Nieves is part of the adventure.
Once you arrive, the forest walk is an easy, family-friendly trail that winds through ancient chestnut trees and shaded woodland paths. Along the way, children will spot painted stones, fairy doors, colourful signs, and whimsical characters peeking out from behind trees. It’s like stepping into a storybook — and it’s just the right length and level for young walkers.
The trail is free to access and open year-round, though spring and autumn are especially lovely times to visit thanks to the fresh greenery and cooler temperatures. Bring sturdy shoes, a snack, and your imagination — kids love making up their own stories as they explore the magical surroundings.
The Bosque Encantado is a brilliant, low-key outing that offers something a little different: a nature walk that feels like a treasure hunt, perfect for sparking creativity and wonder.
For an unforgettable mix of Andalusian countryside, wildlife, and culture, a visit to Reservatauro Ronda is a fantastic family-friendly experience. Just a short drive from the town, this working bull and horse ranch offers a unique insight into one of Spain’s oldest rural traditions, with a strong focus on education, conservation, and animal welfare.
The highlight for families is the guided tour through the estate, which takes place on a tractor-pulled trailer or open-air “train.” As you ride through the rolling countryside, you’ll spot bulls, cows, calves, and majestic Andalusian horses roaming freely across the land. Kids love being up close to the animals (from a safe distance), and the scenery is just as memorable for the grown-ups.
Along the way, knowledgeable guides share stories about the animals, the landscape, and the life of a traditional ganadería (livestock farm), in a way that’s engaging and accessible for all ages. After the tour, families can explore the small museum, visit the stables, and often meet some of the younger animals — always a highlight with little ones.
If you don’t have your own vehicle, Reservatauro offers a convenient round-trip transport service from Ronda for an additional fee. This is ideal for families or groups and can be arranged in advance when booking your tour. There’s also an Exclusive Visit option with a private guide, tapas and wine tasting, and a higher-tier transport service for those seeking a more tailored experience.
Whether you drive yourself or take advantage of the transfer, Reservatauro makes it easy to enjoy a safe, scenic, and educational day out that both adults and children will remember.
If your family loves spending time outdoors, Actividades en Sierra de las Nieves offers some of the most memorable, nature-based experiences near Ronda. Located in the heart of the Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, this passionate local team specialises in engaging outdoor activities that connect kids (and parents!) with the natural world.
For families visiting from abroad, it’s good to know that English-language activities are usually offered as private sessions, meaning your group will have a dedicated guide, and the experience can be fully tailored to your children’s ages, interests, and pace. Whether it’s learning about animal tracks, shelter building, forest games, or nature crafts, their hands-on approach turns a walk in the woods into a magical, educational adventure.
The team has a warm, friendly style and is especially experienced with young children, making sure everyone feels included, safe, and inspired throughout. These private experiences are ideal for families looking to step away from screens and cities and reconnect in nature, all while having fun.

For a deeper dive into nature, they also offer the “24 Hours in the Forest” experience — a full overnight stay in the woods designed especially for children. It includes forest walks, wildlife observation, games, storytelling, and sleeping under the stars (in tents or shelters), all under expert supervision. Please note: this experience is for children only and does not include adults. It’s a unique opportunity for little adventurers to grow their confidence and independence in a safe and supportive environment.
